Elizabeth Girvan spent 20 years as a court reporter and small business owner, but after answering an ad for a volunteer literacy tutor several years ago, she decided to change careers and pursue something more rewarding. She started as the Tutor Program Manager at Skyline Literacy before becoming the Executive Director in 2011. She has a B.S. degree in management and organization development and professional certificates in nonprofit management and adult education. In 2013, she received the Nancy F. Jiranek award from the Virginia Literacy Foundation for Outstanding Executive Director.

Nelly Moreno-Shenk, Programs Coordinator
Nelly is a Salvadoran American citizen living in the United States, and an economist with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. She has worked for about six years in educational and health programs in the U.S. Nelly has been the Program Coordinator with Skyline Literacy since 2008. She organizes ESOL and citizenship preparation classes, and coordinates Skyline Literacy learners.

Sheri comes to Skyline in a part-time role, bringing years of experience as director and volunteer coordinator for the Patchwork Food Pantry, and in the field of media (marketing, writing, video production, website development). After a recent year serving as a volunteer in Romania, Sheri understands what it is like for people who are living in a country where they don’t know the primary language. She is interested in connecting tutors and learners through Skyline Literacy’s programs.
